The Government recently set out the warranty requirements under the Green Deal and the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) has therefore reviewed and updated the terms of its universally recognised 25 year CIGA Guarantee.
The Guarantee now aligns to Green Deal Framework Regulations that specify the requirements for warranties provided under the Green Deal, and is therefore positioned to support Green Deal Providers satisfy their consumer protection obligations under the Green Deal Code of Practice.
Since 1995, the CIGA Guarantee has successfully safeguarded consumers through a quality assurance framework including a suite of Guides to Best Practice covering the installation of Cavity Wall Insulation (CWI) and the independent Guarantee. Amongst the detailed changes made are:
• An increase in the maximum liability to £20,000.
• Inclusion of specified fabric damage as defined in the Green Deal Framework Regulations.

• Established and universally recognised 25 year CIGA Guarantee – providing consumers with complete peace of mind.
• Independent not for profit company – consumer protection framework solely dedicated to assuring quality of workmanship and access to technical support.
• Incorporates the CWISC Competent persons scheme – For qualifying work in England and Wales the Guarantee includes the certificate of compliance with Building Regulations.
• Work must be completed according to CIGA Framework procedures and Best Practice Guides – provides assurance that work will be completed professionally.
• Supported by all main System Designers and in the rare event of a problem occurring provides access to technical resources – offers technical solutions rather than just financial compensation.
• Simple claims procedure – under the terms of the Guarantee CIGA assumes responsibility if the Installer fails to remedy a problem for whatever reason.
• Separate commercial property guarantee also available.
Gerry Miller, Chief Executive of CIGA, commented: “Almost five million households enjoy the peace of mind of a CIGA Guarantee, and we are pleased to be able to offer enhanced cover and additional benefits aligned to support the Green Deal.
"However, we are pleased to announce that the same level of cover will now also be available for work completed under the Energy Company Obligation or alternative schemes.”
