CAVALOK HIGHLY COMMENDED IN HOUSEBUILDER AWARDS 2010

A unique new eco-friendly product from cavity closer specialist Cavalok has been highly commended in the prestigious Housebuilder Awards 2010.

Cavalok’s combined cavity closure and one-hour cavity fire barrier, FlameBlok, was highly commended in the Best Product category of the awards, which are organised by Housebuilder magazine and have become known as the BAFTAs of the building trade.

The awards celebrate the very best of the industry and recognise the achievement of those leading the way in innovation. They culminated in a glittering black tie event on 28th October at the Millennium London Mayfair Hotel, hosted by BBC Ten O’Clock News presenter Huw Edwards.

FlameBlok is a unique product because not only is it two products in one, but it’s made from 100 per cent post consumer recycled PVC-U from old window frames, making it one of the most environmental choices available.

FlameBlok prevents the spread of fire within the cavity by interrupting the cavity with a fire-resistant material, as part of meeting Part B of Building Regulations.

By using FlameBlok, builders can close the cavity and provide fire protection with just one product, eliminating the need for a fire sock. This saves labour, creates a template for wall construction and ensures a safer, more thermally efficient building.

FlameBlok has undergone full and rigorous testing carried out by Chiltern International on cavity sizes up to 150mm, achieving up to 90 minutes integrity for masonry.  During testing, the timber frame used on the test rig failed before FlameBlok, indicating that it easily exceeded the 60 minute rating required from cavity barriers as part of BS EN 1363.
