Carillion, the leading integrated support services company, will be supporting the UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC)’s Big Tent at this year’s Ecobuild - providing 20 ‘must see’ sessions throughout the three days.
As a Gold Leaf UK-GBC Member, Carillion’s own environmental commitments, set out within its 2020 strategy, are closely aligned to UK-GBC’s objectives to raise the standards of sustainability within the built environment.
The UK-GBC Big Tent will provide an opportunity for visitors to get a firm grip on the latest developments in the sustainable built environment and what to expect in the near future.
With 20 insightful sessions throughout Ecobuild, Siobonne Brewster, Strategic Development Director at Carillion Energy Services, will be taking part in the Room 101 session in the Big Tent on Tuesday 5th March. This Ecobuild favourite will see Siobonne and two fellow speakers debating their sustainability pet peeves as they try to consign them to Room 101.
Additionally John Swinney, Carillion’s Business Development Director, will be speaking at the event ‘Green Deal or no Deal’ on Wednesday 6th March. This event will explore which customers will buy into the Green Deal and who in the supply chain will benefit: a weighing up of pros and cons. John will be taking part as a pro Green Deal advocate and in particular will discuss Carillion’s work with local firms to deliver retrofit projects.
For example, Carillion has recently signed a contract with Birmingham Energy Savers (BES), to deliver energy services as part of the Green Deal. As part of the partnership, Carillion has committed to create and sustain at least 360 jobs and to help 600 people from priority groups into placements, training and jobs. This approach to promoting sustainable communities is a natural extension for Carillion, with it being one of the largest providers of training and apprenticeship placements within the construction industry.
The BES scheme will involve Carillion working with Birmingham City Council as its exclusive delivery partner, to improve the energy and carbon efficiency of up to 60,000 households across the city, together with schools and other non-domestic council properties. The scheme will give households affordable ways of improving their properties by fitting energy efficiency measures, such as insulation and new boilers, under the Green Deal.
Siobonne Brewster Strategic Development Director at Carillion Energy Services: “While the Green Deal is a fantastic chance to offer numerous employment and training opportunities for local communities, many home owners and businesses are still not entirely sure about how it is going to work or the advantages it can offer them. Ecobuild will be an excellent opportunity to help clear up the misunderstandings of the Green Deal and to get the benefits of the scheme out there.
“With rising energy prices, increasing fuel poverty and pressing climate change issues, we as a business and all of us as individuals need to take action. Ecobuild provides a fully engaging forum to discuss and tackle the issues, challenges and opportunities available.”
