Alex Botha, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, has announced the winners of the 2013 International Safety Awards.
A total of 38 organisations were awarded a distinction, 244 organisations were awarded a merit and 188 organisations achieved a pass.
Mr Botha congratulated the 470 winning organisations from across the globe. He said: “2013 marks the 55th year of the International Safety Awards. These awards are designed to recognise and honour the achievements of the winning organisations in keeping their workplaces and employees healthy and safe.
“It was clear from the applications that winning organisations have shown dedication and commitment in preventing injury and ill health in the workplace. It was also apparent that applicants recognise that getting health and safety right is a business enabler. The success criteria for these awards is challenging and that rightly reflects the importance of ensuring the risk of injury and ill health in the workplace is properly controlled. Awards have an important part to play in driving improvements in health and safety management year on year.
“Our vision is that no one should be injured, made ill or killed by work activity, anywhere in the world, so it’s wonderful to see that winners of the 2013 awards are truly international. From SeaRiver Maritime of Houston, Texas, to Diageo Beer Supply Europe, to the Kuwait Oil Company.
“Winners are drawn from a broad range of sectors dealing with different risks – from the health sector, with winners such as BUPA Cromwell Hospital, London, to the oil and gas sector with winners including Bahrain National Gas Company, Offshore Design Engineering Ltd and Schlumberger Oilfield UK Ltd. The construction sector is well represented with many winners including ISG, Kier, Laing O’Rourke and Walker Construction.
“We look forward to celebrating and recognising the success of the award winning organisations at our gala dinner in April. Our warmest congratulations to the winners.”
Winning organisations will be invited to the International Safety Awards gala dinner taking place at Grosvenor House in London on 26 April 2013.
