BOC, the UK's leading industrial and medical gases and technologies business, has visited ClanFit Glasgow to take members down to temperatures of -135°C as a part of a world class exercise recovery technique employed by football stars from the Premier League and elite rugby players from the Super League and the Aviva Premiership.
The cryotherapy treatment, which exposes users to short bursts of extreme cold, speeds up injury recovery times and gets athletes back working out days ahead of schedule after the strains of competitive action or rigorous training.
Developed by BOC, a member of The Linde Group, the world’s first Mobile Cryotherapy Chamber represents a major step forward from traditional ice-bath treatments, reducing cold temperature exposure time by more than a third. In addition, the dryness of the chamber avoids the shock and discomfort of submergence in ice-cold water, creating a far more pleasant overall experience.
Previous users from elite sport have also reported reductions in rheumatism, muscle and joint pain and reduced inflammation for several weeks following the treatment, that together increase comfort and get them training at one hundred percent well ahead of schedule.
“As the UK’s most experienced handler of cryogenic gases, BOC is supporting growing public interest in strength and conditioning programmes such as Cross-fit with this revolutionary treatment in the safest way to customers across the UK sport, leisure and health industries," says BOC Cryotherapy Manager Michael Toole.
"Also being a mobile chamber we can travel all over the country to bring leading training and health facilities and their members a taste of the latest recovery technique employed by many of their sporting idols. This combined with a competitive daily hire rate means that the treatment can be offered to members as and when they want it."
"At ClanFit we see ourselves as the forerunners in Strength and Conditioning for the general public and athletes in Glasgow and we are delighted to have BOC Cryotherapy here today giving our members the experience of a treatment usually reserved for elite professionals”says David Nowell-Cook, CrossFit Trainer at ClanFit.
“We are always looking at bringing the techniques from the athletic development training world to help the general public achieve their health and fitness goals. Cryotherapy certainly fits the bill and we are sure our members will benefit from improved injury prevention and rehabilitation, as well as additional support for their strength and conditioning and agility training programmes.”
