Nine Elms on the South Bank, the £15 billion transformational area between Lambeth Bridge and Chelsea Bridge and one of the largest regeneration areas in Europe, this week celebrates two major milestones in its development.
Battersea Power Station officially broke ground, attended by the Prime Minister David Cameron and the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, marking the site’s first development in over thirty years.
Also, the first phase of Riverlight by St James, is approaching completion and the Mayor of London Boris Johnson oversaw the ‘topping out’ ceremony. Riverlight was one of the first redevelopments to get underway, and the first residents will move in mid-2014
These two major milestones come on the back of the agreement by the Nine Elms Vauxhall Strategy Board to deliver a co-ordinated approach to delivering jobs to the local residents of Lambeth and Wandsworth. An employment service will be launched later this year for employers and job seekers that will provide a single point of contact for opportunities across Nine Elms on the South Bank.
In addition to the employment service there are two events taking place at The View at Battersea Power Station in the next week that will allow local residents and businesses to engage with those involved in delivering Nine Elms on the South Bank:
Councillor Ravi Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council and Co-chair of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership said: “We are creating a fantastic new part of the city here which will deliver new jobs and growth for generations to come.”
Fellow Co-Chair Councillor Lib Peck, Leader of Lambeth Council said “The opportunities for local people, for jobs, homes and businesses are exciting. The Supply Nine Elms event is a great way for local businesses to find out how they can make the most of those opportunities.”
Helen Fisher, Programme Director of Nine Elms on the South Bank commented, “This week’s development milestones bring us one step closer to the vibrant and cosmopolitan area of London that Nine Elms on the South Bank will become.”
