The groundbreaking Marks & Spencer Cheshire Oaks store, which incorporates products from fenestration systems designer and manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems, continues to exceed expectations with thanks to its robust sustainability strategies.

The store, in Ellesmere Port, has been designed by architects Aukett Fitzroy Robinson to be the most carbon efficient Marks & Spencer store to date, and boasts a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating along with countless award wins.

An independent evaluation of the performance of the building’s environmental features carried out by Faithful and Gould after the store’s first year of operation showed annual energy consumption to be 42% lower than that of a benchmark store.

Research also found that the store, built in line with the retailer’s Plan A initiative, creates 40% fewer carbon emissions than a benchmark store.

Senior’s Hybrid series 3 high performance curtain walling systems were installed for Marks & Spencer; the timber aluminium composite system perfectly complements the wave-style roof, built from 100% FSC-certified, curved Glulam timber beams.

One of the reasons for the store’s low environmental impact is its extensive use of renewable materials and Senior’s Hybrid curtain wall systems reflects these design principles perfectly with its 100% recyclable timber and aluminium profiles.

Senior’s curtain walling systems also maximises the amount of natural light inside the building, which offers further energy savings.
