Onyx Solar has installed a photovoltaic curtain wall for the new GDR Guadalhorce Valley’s Headquarters, which will contribute reducing the building’s energy consumption.

The future new GDR’s headquarters, located in the province of Malaga, Spain, has been designed to become a Center for Social, Economic and Environmental Innovation. GDR Guadalhorce Valley will host many different institutions and associations which work actively towards the development, promotion and innovation of the valley.

Onyx Solar’s photovoltaic glass has been installed at the building façade as a unique curtain wall capable of generating more than 3,000 kWh per year. This customized glass, made of amorphous silicon technology, was designed in a large format to meet customer’s project needs, the Regional Government of Andalusia.
It is remarkable that this low-emissive glass improves both, thermal and acoustic insulation, reducing energy expenses.

In addition, the 20% light transmittance glass chosen allows the entrance of natural light into the building; this way, artificial lighting needs are decreased. This photovoltaic curtain wall enhances the building’s inner comfort for its occupants at the same time it preserves its natural surroundings through a more efficient construction and aesthetic design.

By integrating Onyx Solar’s photovoltaic glass in façades, building are able to save up to 50% in HVAC expenses.
