Bespoke steel doors and screens for a light-filled living space

This luxury home in Berkshire demonstrates the versatility of W20 steel doors and screens, designed, manufactured and installed by Steel Window Association member The Cotswold Casement Company.

The project included both internal and external steel doors and screens, creating a consistent architectural language throughout the property.

The client wanted the home to feel open and connected to the garden without losing its sense of character.

As the main living space was naturally dark, bringing more natural light into the room was also a key priority. At the same time, the doors needed to have a modern appearance and the strength and durability to stand the test of time.

Bespoke steel doors and screens provided the ideal solution. Expansive areas of glazing maximise natural light and create a strong connection between the interior and the garden, while the slender steel profiles and carefully proportioned glazing bars give the space a distinctive architectural identity. Longevity was particularly important to the client, making steel a natural choice for the project.

Specialist finishes by Bradleys Metal Finishes add further depth and character to the steelwork. The external doors feature an Antique Rust 1 finish, creating a distinctive weathered effect that brings warmth and individuality to the exterior. For the internal doors and screens, a Bronze Aegean finish was chosen, complementing the materials and colours used throughout the interior.

All of the internal and external doors and screens were double glazed, helping to improve thermal performance externally and reduce noise transfer between internal spaces, while maintaining the slim, elegant appearance of the W20 steel systems.

The finished steelwork forms an integral part of the overall interior design by Isla James Interiors. The carefully considered lighting, warm finishes and rich colour palette work beautifully alongside the bronze-toned steel, while the repeated glazing bars create rhythm across the room and frame views of the garden.

The result is a home that feels lighter, more open and more connected to its surroundings, with bespoke steelwork that brings together performance, longevity and architectural character.

From bespoke steel windows and external doors to distinctive internal doors and screens, The Cotswold Casement Company manufactures steelwork to complement the architecture and character of each individual project.
