Civil and structural engineering consultancy JPG has been appointed to assist with the regeneration of Ulverston town centre following recent planning approval to redevelop the Old Robinsons Brewery.
The sensitive project involves the redevelopment of a number of disused brewery warehouse units to deliver a 20,000 sq ft supermarket with ancillary retail and office space.
The development incorporates and re-opens historic public houses on the site. An underground car park providing 90 spaces and integration with the existing public realm with new walkways and adapted highways is also included.
JPG has been brought onto the professional team by Robinsons because of its specific expertise in civil and structural planning for key regional heritage sites where sustainability is a key priority.
The brief includes traffic assessment and highways re-engineering to include two public car parks, drainage and flood risk advice, air quality assessments and structural advice for all new and existing buildings to be incorporated.
JPG worked with the project team through a series of sensitive public consultations to see the project through to planning approval. Chris Harding, Director at JPG said, “The existing site has considerable heritage value which Robinson’s plans embrace with a scheme that will contribute to the vitality and viability for Ulverston town centre on the whole with a potential for 200 new jobs.
