The simple hinge can actually be heralded as a revolution in the construction world and as such, leading manufacturers and solution providers in protecting doors, people and places, Intastop, is keen to highlight the importance of this simple but effective piece of ironmongery.
Sarah Barsby, marketing director for Intastop commented: “The importance of a hinge is often overlooked but when considering the effect it has on door repair and replacement costs it really should be a priority. Particularly in public buildings where there is continual use and also public safety to consider.”
The next generation, Continuous Geared Hinge, from Intastop addresses all these issues and more. Unlike other hinges it works by two full length, paired and geared levers.
Each geared leaf rotates evenly from top to bottom riding on Delrin-Teflon bearings which generate a low operating force delivering easy opening and automatic closing.
Users enjoy increased security, safety and privacy and typical problems in high usage doors such as alignment issues and stress distribution is alleviated through its innovative design.
The Intastop SECURAHinge decreases maintenance, allowing heavy doors to be safely fitted as weight is distributed across the entirety of the hinge preventing buckling which can result in doors becoming faulty. It also eliminates any gap between door and frame, providing privacy and added security and, is ideal in mental health facilities as it removes potential ligature risks by featuring an anti-ligature tip which minimises the gap in open and closed positions and it also ensures no gap behind the bearing.
“Our SECURAHinge provides a real and measurable solution to problems that public buildings such as hospitals including mental health, schools and leisure facilities experience. In fact, in some instances it has the potential to save up to £30,000 on maintenance costs,” said Sarah.
In addition to its quality manufacture the hinge is backed by a plethora of certifications such as Fire tested to BS476:Part 20 & 22 for 30 and 60 minutes, exceeds life cycle requirements of BS7532:1990 (tested to 1.5 million cycles) and is Grade 1 Abuse tested.
