Flying into the future

As West Northamptonshire Development Corporation nears closure, it has released a new digital animation of ‘The Big Six’ regeneration projects in Northampton.

Established in 2004, the specialist Government body has been working with the local authorities to regenerate Northampton, Daventry and Towcester town centres.  It is the last remaining organisation of its kind in the UK, and is set to close on 31 March 2014 after completing a 10 year delivery plan.

Roger Mendonca, WNDC’s Chief Operating Officer said: “Over the past decade, WNDC has invested around £120m in the transformation of West Northamptonshire. This has supported high-profile projects like the new Northampton Railway Station, as well as less prominent but equally important work, spanning new roads, arts attractions and community facilities.

“With so many developments in full flow and even more to come, it’s an uplifting time for the area. The digital animation helps to bring all of this exciting activity to life.”

Councillor David Mackintosh, leader of Northampton Borough Council, said:  “This is the end of an era for WNDC but – thanks to our joint preparations for a smooth handover and the excellent partnerships we’ve built with central Government, other local bodies and the private sector - it’s just the tip of the iceberg.”

The fly-through animation has been created using an extensive 3D digital model of Northampton town centre.  Led by WNDC, the highly accurate model has been used to assist the design and planning of new developments, as well as the successful promotion of sites to developers and investors.
