University of Bath invests £26 million in new Chancellor Building

There has been much anticipation about the stunning new Chancellor's Building at the University of Bath, also known as the General Teaching Accommodation (GTA) building, following the announcement that £26 million was to be invested in this project back in September 2012.

Now complete and looking ultra-chic with a fabulous landscaped area consisting of fabulous paving supplied by world class paving and walling manufacturer, Tobermore, the University of Bath is attracting much media attention.

Designed by Stride Treglown Architects and built by Vinci Construction, the 8,000 square metre Chancellor's building offers a dramatic new hub of learning and teaching on campus with new teaching facilities ranging from twin 350 seated lecture theatres to 30 seated group lecture rooms.

The building has doubled the number of large scale lecture theatres on campus and provides students with improved timetabling as up to 2,000 students are now able to use the premises at any one time, and furthermore,  a variety of purpose-built learning spaces with state of the art audio visual facilities are now available.

The University of Bath has an interesting history given that it was originally established in 1856 as Bristol Trade School and wasn't granted university status until much later in 1966. As the college rapidly expanded during the 60's, and with no suitable site available in Bristol, a decision was then made to provide the college with a beautiful new home in Claverton Down, Bath which became the University of Bath as we know it today.

The modern new landscape at the Chancellor's Building consists of Tobermore's unique Fusion block paving in the sparkling shades of Silver, Mid Grey and Graphite, which was laid by D & K Groundworks. The paved landscape is undoubtedly one of the key style features of this entire project.

Tobermore's Fusion paving is available in a wide range of modular sizes and allows for the creation of striking visual effects through the clever use of colour and laying patterns. Fusion creates instant sophistication with its natural granite appearance and exposed aggregate surface, and are the ideal accompaniment to a contemporary style commercial build like the University of Bath.
