The pioneering Pecolift is playing its part in enabling safe and effective work at height during the £80m refurbishment of Reading Train Station.
The platform, which can elevate to working heights of 3.5 metres simply by operators turning an intuitive handle, has proved to be an ideal alternative to podiums and steps for a wide range of engineering, maintenance and finishing tasks.
To date, around 25 Pecolift units have been deployed for daily use on the site.
With no electricity or fuel required to provide power, the Pecolift boasts clear environmental credentials whilst also enabling fast, cost-effective and a highly safety-focussed method of working. These credentials are bolstered by testing which reveals that Pecolift allows its users to access comparative heights up to ten times more quickly than podium steps.
On the Reading Station site, the low level access platform has enjoyed strong popularity from electrical engineers who have benefited from the product’s excellent manoeuvrability when completing wiring, installation and testing tasks in a wide number of areas throughout the redevelopment. With a simple “push-around” design and no additional worries about battery or fuel depletion, the platform can easily and effectively be moved around site as required.
Philip Knapton’s team working for NG Bailey has used Pecolift units for electrical work behind the scenes of the station redevelopment. Speaking on how the product has aided work, he said: “Working safely and effectively is central to all of the tasks we undertake as a business. At Reading Station we’ve been pleased to utilise the Pecolift as a means of contributing to the success of the project through new efficiencies associated with working at height.”
Richard Miller, Executive Director – Sales, Nationwide Platforms, said: “The work at Reading Station is a clear demonstration of the immediate, positive impact this product can have on working at height. With no erection or dismantling required, Pecolift provides a safe and enclosed platform for working at height which truly puts its user in control. Additionally, no fuel or battery requirements help give the operator extra peace of mind, as well as knowledge that the unit can keep working as long as they can.”
