There’s no monkeying around for Kestrel Aluminium Systems and HTL Windows and Doors as they deliver an improved visitor experience at Whipsnade Zoo based in Dunstable. As part of a refurbishment project the entrance area was redesigned incorporating a gift shop, café and ticket office, all under one roof creating an inviting visitor welcome area.
The Challenge
Famous for being the first zoo opened in Europe back in 1931,
Whipsnade Zoo has continued to promote the conservation of
animals and nature. Ensuring that the zoo remains easily accessible
to all is paramount to its success, bearing a dated frontage it was
time to bring the zoo into the 21st century.
Time was an important factor for the chosen contractors, HTL Windows and Doors, who needed to deliver the building facades before the Easter break allowing only a 5-6 week turnaround period from the acceptance of the drawings to ordering materials, manufacture and install. As a result they needed a partner that could supply a painted quality product on a short lead time, with the confidence that the time scale would be met and to the required standard and specification.
The Solution
HTL Windows and Doors specified the Kestrel Aluminium Systems 60mm Window Systems, 125mm Curtain Walling and Commercial Doors knowing from previous project experience that the products would meet all expectations and the Kestrel service would support them in providing a quality finished project.
The 125mm Curtain Walling has been used to create a
modern building that is flooded with natural light, allowing visitors to see straight into the main zoo area. The
commercial door sets are automated to comply with DDA
specifications ensuring the zoo facilities are accessible to all
members of the public. The 60mm Window System allows for
natural ventilation within the public areas and zoo offices,
making these buildings more pleasant places to work in.
The Benefits
The longstanding relationship between Kestrel Aluminium Systems and HTL Windows and Doors meant HTL approached their trusted supplier for additional help in delivering the project. Using the Kestrel fleet the assembled Curtain Walling spans were delivered by Kestrel transport direct from manufacture to site where the installation team were ready and waiting.
Kestrel Aluminium Systems enjoys working closely with customers to achieve positive outcomes on projects of any scale. “It is exciting for us to see our products installed in iconic facilities like this where our customers have been able to supply a complete project in Kestrel Aluminium Systems material. It clearly demonstrates the capabilities of our customers and we are proud to be part of their success.”
