Catalyst Housing working with Pollard Thomas Edwards architects (PTEa) has announced that their ambitious £200 million plans to regenerate the sprawling Havelock estate in Southall have been approved.
The masterplan for the transformation of the Havelock estate was approved by Ealing Council’s Planning Committee at its meeting on 27th November. The approved proposals for Havelock will see 922 new homes built – a mix of houses and flats for rent, shared ownership and sale, so that people from all income brackets can live in the new neighbourhood.
The regeneration programme will demolish large sections of the current estate and provide brand new homes for housing association rent and shared ownership, as well as for outright sale – transforming the area into a vibrant and mixed neighbourhood.
The regeneration will also create new roads, a new community facility and shops, whilst opening up the canal-side and providing new public open spaces. Catalyst will offer training opportunities and apprenticeships in construction for local young people and a £1m community regeneration fund will support community projects, further reinforcing Catalyst’s long term commitment to Southall.
Rod Cahill, Catalyst Chief Executive said: “We’re thrilled that Ealing Council has approved our exciting plans for Havelock. I would like to thank the residents of Havelock who have given so much of their time over the past year to help us ensure that our plans address the things they like and dislike about their current estate. I am delighted that we can now look forward to starting work in earnest on transforming Havelock into a great new neighbourhood, meeting the aspirations of residents and the Council.”
Virendra Sharma MP for Ealing Southall said: “I am delighted that work can soon start on the transformation of the Havelock estate. Catalyst has developed and managed excellent housing in the borough for many years and has extensive experience in this sort of complex project. And with the coming of Crossrail promising faster commuting times from Southall to central London, Catalyst’s regeneration is starting at just the right time, as it will bring much-needed new high-quality homes to the town.”
Stephen Fisher, Executive Director at Pollard Thomas Edwards said: “We are delighted that this regeneration can move forward and has achieved planning and look forward to transforming Havelock estate into a thriving new neighbourhood. We have worked closely with Catalyst, residents and the wider community.”
