Barr Construction has completed the £9.5m state-of-the-art leisure centre for Witham in Essex to replace the previous facility, Bramston Sports Centre.
Barr started construction of Witham Leisure Centre in spring 2013 and has delivered the facility on time, with its doors now open to the local community and the surrounding areas.
The new Witham Leisure Centre features a six lane 25 metre swimming pool, a learner pool with a moveable floor and an overlooking spectator area as well as excellent wet and dry change facilities.
Visitors can benefit from a variety of other facilities within the centre including a fitness suite, two squash courts and two dance studios and will be able to relax in the centre’s sauna and steam room or in the two treatment rooms for physiotherapy and beauty therapy.
David Mason, project manager at Barr Construction, said “Barr Construction has an excellent track record of delivering state-of-the-art sports and leisure facilities across the UK and we are extremely proud to have delivered a first-class sporting facility for Braintree District Council.
“The new leisure centre is now ready to open its doors to the people of Witham and we’re confident the facility will be a fantastic and well-used resource by the local community as well as athletes from across the Essex area.”
The new centre has been specifically designed to provide a high quality leisure experience as a part of Braintree District Council’s commitment to ensure that residents across the district have access to sport and leisure opportunities.
Councillor Jo Beavis, Cabinet Member for People and Participation, said: “I’m very proud to be able to announce the opening of the new Witham Leisure Centre. This is an extremely exciting moment for the town and for the district, and one that is immensely fulfilling for everyone who has been involved in the project from start to finish.
“The facilities in the Witham Leisure Centre are state of the art and represent a huge leap forward, so we can continue to provide great services in an outstanding new site.
“Above all, we hope that the new centre becomes an important and much-loved resource for everyone in the community to enjoy and benefit from.”
The leisure centre will be run by sport and leisure management service providers, Fusion Lifestyle.
