This year’s Wilo stand at EcoBuild - N2145 - will be a ‘must visit’ stand for anyone interested in saving energy.
High efficiency is the new standard – and legislation from Europe in the form of the ErP Directive and the proposed new European Commission EN Standard will continue to see something of a revolution in pumps and pumping system design and specification.
Amongst the wide range of exhibits on the stand perhaps the four products of the show will be the Wilo-Yonos PICO, the Wilo-Stratos GIGA, the Wilo-Helix Excel and the Wilo Assistant.
On the Wilo stand will be the Wilo-Yonos PICO – this energy efficient small circulator has seen huge success since it was launched at EcoBuild in 2012. Wilo took the brave decision to stop selling old style, small circulators well before the new legislation that outlaws around 90% of the models that had been on the merchants shelves in 2009, came into force on 1st January 2013 and said you had to supply high efficiency pumps to meet the EU legislation.
The move saw many customers recognising the benefits of utilising the high efficiency options and making all installations ‘future proof’ in advance of the absolute date of the switch to high efficiency small circulators.
The Wilo-Stratos GIGA will also be grabbing attention on the stand. Introduced in 2012 and generating significant interest from every corner of the marketplace, it’s the first high efficiency glanded pump on the market and its targeted specifically at the building services and industry sectors.
The Wilo-Stratos GIGA offers building designers, specifiers and architects the chance to easily optimize the energy costs and environmental balance of a building or industrial complex. With its hydraulic output and specification, the new Wilo-Stratos GIGA is ideal for commercial, industrial and residential buildings.
Due to the combination of new hydraulics with a new highly efficient drive concept (HED – High Efficiency Drive) the Wilo-Stratos GIGA offers major energy saving benefits. Specifying the GIGA will result in a saving of emissions of approximately 8,000 kg CO2 per year whilst saving up to £70,000 in electricity costs per pump installed over a 15 year lifecycle, compared to conventional uncontrolled pumps (based on the Blue Angel load profile). The new GIGA has a typical payback period of less than two years.
The new pump series that the GIGA leads is a completely new development. For the first time glanded pumps are driven by highly efficient energy-saving EC motors and the pumps' hydraulics are optimally adjusted to the motor technology. According to Wilo, GIGA pumps can claim particularly high total efficiency based on a motor efficiency of up to 94 per cent at a nominal motor power of 4.5 kW. The motor's energy efficiency is based on a new high-efficiency drive concept, that even outclasses the limit of efficiency class IE4 outlined under the new and far reaching ErP Directive for energy related products.
The third key product on the stand will see the introduction for the first time in the UK of the Wilo Helix Excel. Another Wilo contribution to building energy efficiency, it’s a new series of high-pressure multistage centrifugal pumps. Its fields of application include water supply, pressure boosting, industrial circulation systems, process water, cooling water circuits, washing systems and irrigation systems. The Wilo-Helix Excel already more than meets the legal requirements that will not come into effect until 2017 and already beats the IE4 limit values which are only available as a draft. It offers secure planning for the years ahead with Wilo pumps – reducing costs and emissions. It also offers up to 70% less maintenance expense with easy and convenient access to the gasket without uninstalling the motor.
And finally – the fourth must see attention grabber at the show will be the Wilo Assistant. Available on both iPhone and Android, this helpful App features a simple to use conversion chart, easy to access high efficiency pumping solutions all at your finger tips – already being welcomed by architects, building designers, specifiers and installers around Europe, it’s the latest touch-friendly solution for information exchange from Wilo.
The "Wilo Assistant" offers amongst others an interactive replacement guide for heating and secondary hot water pumps. You simply enter the name of the pump to be replaced and you will be provided with a recommendation of the suitable, high-efficiency Wilo replacement pump.
Thousands of commercially available old pumps, from as early as 1975, are taken into consideration. There’s a savings calculator which calculates the electricity and CO2 savings potential when using a power-saving Wilo high-efficiency pump as compared to an uncontrolled heating pump. There’s a shortened glandless pump catalogue, and lots more including news and a quick contact link to your contact at Wilo UK.
“It’s going to be an exciting show for us at Wilo,” said Sales Director of Building Services, Richard Harden. “We’re looking to build significantly on the success of the show in 2012 and to meet as many people as we can over the three days.”
