With hundreds of tall buildings planned in London alone between now and 2030*, and an estimated 3m IoT connected devices expected globally in smart buildings by 2030**, the demand for more efficient means of moving people has never been greater. This issue will be addressed at next month’s LIFTEX 2019 (15 – 16 May 2019, ExCeL, London) with solutions on show designed to modernise, maintain and improve a building’s lifts and escalators.

Organised by the Lift & Escalator Industry Association (LEIA) and aimed at specifiers, installers, designers and building managers, LIFTEX only takes place once every three years. It features an exhibition of 120 leading suppliers showcasing the latest innovations and technology from the lift and escalator industry, some of which have never been seen before at a UK event.

Solutions on show include:

  • Space saving gearless machines without the need for engine rooms or large pit heights.
  • IoT remote lift monitoring devices which can predict faults before they occur and schedule predictive maintenance.
  • Intuitive apps and data to allow users to order lifts remotely, and intelligent lift planning to organise the user flow for efficiency.
  • Modernisation solutions to bring lifts in older buildings up to date with new constructions.
  • Invisible lifts which only appear when called by the user or home and goods lifts which are integrated into a building design.

“The landscape has changed significantly for anyone tasked with specifying, installing or managing a building’s lifts” comments LIFTEX Show Director, Oliver Greening. “We know that smart technology is revolutionising the way we work and live, but it’s also changing how we move around within these environments. Our exhibitors will be showcasing the latest innovations which ultimately will save space, time, money and energy. If you want to understand the future of safe people flow within your building, then don’t miss this opportunity to attend the only UK event dedicated to lifts, escalators and moving equipment.”

Running alongside the exhibition is a free seminar programme offering insights into issues such as: the future for standards and regulations for lifts, duties for owners of escalators, fire safety and evacuation planning, improving the safety of existing lifts and emergency communication lines.

LEIA will also host a free Advice Centre for anyone facing issues with their lifts or wanting to learn more about keeping their equipment safe and maintained.
