Contractors are being reminded of the vital role unvented water heaters can play in the overall efficiency of a light commercial heating system. The interesting new advice pinpoints three features that should be prioritised in water heater specification to save customers money on long-term running costs.
Roy Marsden, Product Manager and water heater expert at Heatrae Sadia, explains: “While the benefits of unvented vs. open vented systems have long been acknowledged - ever since becoming standard practice in the eighties - there are still considerable variations in water heaters on the market.
“It’s not uncommon for contractors to think unvented water heaters are all the same these days and therefore often opt for the cheapest. However, if contractors prioritise efficiency measures over price it will only help boost their reputation in the future and therefore win more work.”
Roy highlights the top three features to look out for:
- Smart technology integration: Upselling to products that can ultimately learn patterns of usage will pay dividends for the end-user. It’s important for contractors to look out for these features, for example self-learning thermostatic controls.
- Usability: Is it easy for the end-user to operate? Water heaters now come with stylish and simple displays which enable intuitive ease-of-use, further encouraging facilities managers and end-users to get more familiar with their system.
- ErP rating: Perhaps an obvious one but not all water heaters are the highest efficiency. Opting for A-rated will ensure a contractor is remembered by their customer for offering long-term savings.
