Structural UFH system now provides acoustic performance

As the brand offering the most comprehensive underfloor heating (UFH) range available to UK specifiers, OMNIE has acted to make its renowned TorFloor system even more versatile by adding an acoustic control version.

TorFloor RdB retains the spanning capabilities of the standard panel – the only such solution available for its load-carrying capacity – with two additional layers to improve the acoustic performance.

There is an extra layer of particleboard, separated from the main panel by sound absorbing strips, while the underside of the 9mm chipboard features a covering of acoustic felt.

Together the build-up will counter vibration and counter airborne as well as impact sound transmission, and although the new product is already being successfully utilised in both new-build and retrofit situations, additional testing is on-going to further define TorFloor RdB’s full potential. The total installed depth for TorFloor RdB is 39mm, plus a 6mm overlay of plywood which is glued and screwed in place once the pipe loops have been laid into the unique, multi-directional channels. With no need for a separate decking across the timber joists, this will still provide a relatively low build-up where head height is at a premium, while TorFloor RdB provides other positive technical benefits.

Being dry systems TorFloor and TorFloor RdB form part of OMNIE’s recently launched LayFast offering identified in the 2018 brochure and on the company’s website to assist heating engineers and other customers achieve a rapid installation.

Depending on the final floorcovering chosen, they also offer very good heat delivery within the occupied space, meaning they are ideal for maximising the efficiency of heat pumps as well as condensing boilers.

Assuming flow and return temperatures of 45/38 °c (commonly seen with air and ground source heat pump installations) TorFloor RdB would deliver 59 W/m2 with a tiled floorcovering, reducing to 49 W/m2 with typical carpet and underlay. Panels measure 2400 x 600mm while the installed weight, including water, is 26 kg per square metre.

OMNIE offers a full specification, design and supply service with trained engineers on hand to help customers decide on the best solutions for their project.
