Mineral Wool insulation manufacturer, Knauf Insulation, has achieved the BES 6001 standard for its responsible sourcing practices.
The Building Research Establishment’s BES 6001 standard is achieved by businesses that demonstrate a responsible approach to their manufacturing processes, including the sourcing of materials, how products are manufactured and waste prevention.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Knauf Insulation use recycled materials across its products. The business has also developed a sustainable binder for its Glass and Rock Mineral Wool products that has no added formaldehyde, acrylics or artificial colours called ECOSE Technology.
Knauf Insulation achieved the standard across its Glass and Rock Mineral Wool products manufactured at its sites in St Helens (pictured), Cwmbran and Queensferry.
The accreditation follows the announcement of a £10 million investment earlier this year in a new processing plant in St Helens, which will prepare recycled glass to be used in Knauf Insulation’s Glass Mineral Wool products, as well as multi million pound enhancements to its Rock Mineral Wool plant in Queensferry, increasing plant capacity and mechanical improvements.

Products that have achieved BES 6001 also contribute to BREEAM credits on schemes where they are used.
