Residing within a quiet cul-de-sac in South Buckinghamshire, the owners of a £1.3m home decided it was time to upgrade their driveway. Neighbouring properties featured asphalt driveways, and even though the owners did not want asphalt as their choice of surface, it was important that it was sensitive to its surroundings and blended in aesthetically. Another important consideration for the home owners was that the surface was permeable and SuDS compliant.
Upon hiring FG Mileham Building as the contractor to take charge of the driveway re-development, the director, Barry Mileham, decided that the most suitable surface material was resin bound paving. After seeing a resin footpath at a holiday park which SureSet laid, he decided that SureSet and Dural were the suppliers of choice.
Why resin bound paving?
More and more homeowners are opting to have resin bound paving laid for their driveways and appreciate the benefits they get with the material. It is not only visually attractive and gives their property ‘kerb appeal’ but is also hugely practical, as it is extremely durable and the physical properties of the resin bound surfacing (natural aggregate combined with resin) will give years of outstanding performance to homeowners.
The homeowners in South Buckinghamshire decided against an asphalt driveway even though a few neighbouring properties used that material. They thought it had a slightly ‘industrial’ appearance and they required a material that was visually more appealing and eye-catching. FG Mileham Building also noted that asphalt has a poor resistance to weathering and is prone to degredation, even after a few years. The durability of resin bound paving on the other hand, means it is guaranteed for many years from UV degredation and colour discolouration.
FG Mileham Building approached SureSet, who recommended their Natural Aggregate range in ‘Midnight’ colour, to match the neighbours’ asphalt driveways. It was specified in ‘Sterling’ for around the tree pit area. SureSet’s Natural Aggregate range of resin bound paving is available in a range of aggregate sizes, textures and colours.
The resin paving needed a form of edge restraint and in this case came in the form of Dural’s Durosol range of Aluminium Edge Profiling. These profiles were chosen not only to give the installation a clean and clinical appearance, but also offered excellent edge protection for the resin paving.
Available in a wide range of depths, sizes and materials, Dural’s Durosol range of Edge Profiling provide beautiful high quality edge protection for many resin bound driveways throughout the UK.
Seamless installation for a seamless floor
As the installation date got ever-closer, SureSet were concerned about the weather forecast on the day of installation – it is true what they say, you can never rely on the British weather! As a result, they brought installation forward by a day which proved to be an excellent decision. An area of 96m2 was laid, as well as 2m2 for the tree pit, within the day.
Both the contractor and the homeowners were delighted with the end result. FG Mileham Building were really impressed with the resin paving and the installation team, and the homeowners were thrilled with how the resin flooring combined with the aluminium edging to create a stunning driveway.
Fully SuDS compliant
Resin bound surfaces are fully permeable and as a result water is able to drain through the surface effectively, preventing any surface water build up. A good quality resin bound surface will be fully compliant with the requirements of Sustainable urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), which was introduced in 2011 to better manage water run off in urban areas.
SureSet have been supplying high quality resin bound surfacing for almost 20 years and are considered to be specialists in permeable resin bound paving.
