Luxury Treehouses at Center Parcs, Elveden Forest in Suffolk have welcomed their first guests following completion using JB Western Red Cedar Shingles from leading roof systems manufacturer Marley.
The four treehouses, which contain luxury features such as TV room and games den, en-suite bathrooms and hot tubs, have been designed to blend in seamlessly with the woodland surroundings. JB Blue label Shingles were specified for their ability to provide a high quality long-life solution with low maintenance, which fit perfectly with the natural environment. Furthermore, the JB Cedar Shingles specified were also treated with JB FRT Exterior, which gives them a fire classification to BS 476-3, the same as a clay tile, for added reassurance and the protection of the visitors.
In total, 564 bundles of JB Shingles were needed for the project and sub-contractor Lodge Roofing were appointed to undertake the installation. The independent roofing contractor has worked with JB Shingles for a number of years so, when it came to specifying a roofing solution which was not only easy to install but would weather naturally, Marley’s JB Western Red Cedar Shingles were the ideal choice. Furthermore, shingles also deliver one of the lowest carbon footprints of any widely used building product, representing a net carbon sink upon delivery, meaning more carbon is stored in the shingle than is emitted during its harvest, manufacture and transportation combined.Billy Sweeney, general manager at Lodge Roofing, says: “For projects such as this, JB Shingles are perfect. For us, they are the best name in the trade and we never have any problems with them. As a result, we’ve used them for many years. They are also very easy to install so, we regard them as a top quality building product, which helps us achieve perfect aesthetic solutions without impacting on build timescales”.
The completed Treehouses can comfortably house up to eight people and this new accommodation increases the luxury offering at Elveden Forest for guests.
In addition to JB Cedar Shingles, Lodge Roofing also used ShingleFix, which uses specially designed stainless steel staples to fix the shingles instead of using the traditional nail, further reducing the installation time of the project- by up to 50% on larger builds.
Daniel Redfern, Marketing Executive, Marley, says: “JB Shingles were a perfect match for this project. The roofs on the lodges needed to weather beautifully with the surroundings, blend in well with the woodland and provide comfortable, warm and energy efficient accommodation for an unforgettable family getaway. This has demonstrated not only what JB Shingles can do, but also the ease with which they can be installed to achieve a stunning effect.”
Produced from naturally beautiful slow growing western red cedar in Canada, the JB ‘Blue’ Certi-grade® label denotes the highest quality grade shingles accredited through the Cedar Shingle and Shake Bureau (CSSB). This guarantees they are produced from 100% heartwood, the durable part of the tree, 100% edge grain for dimensional stability and that they are 100% free from defects such as knots.
