Govette Windows, a member of the Steel Window Association, has completed a prestigious contract on a private residential property in Shepherds Bush, London, supplying and installing a package of clever steel doors and windows fabricated using the W40 suite of sections.
The scheme boasts stunning aesthetics while optimising views and daylight transmission; as well as offering higher levels of security and enhanced energy performance.
The home has been extensively modernised and remodelled under the guidance of Alex Upton Architects (AUA): featuring a side extension at ground floor level to create a spacious kitchen and entertainment space. Extending across the widened rear elevation, the W40 screen produced by Govette Windows in Surrey, contains two sets of double doors opening out onto the garden's large paved area.
The W40 frames were finished in a RAL 7016 Anthracite polyester powder coat over the galvanised steel sections and use the Part L bead developed by SWA members to meet the requirements of the Building Regulations. This ensures that the door screen meets Part L of the current building regulations and achieves a 1.8 W/m2K overall U value. They retain 24mm thick argon filled IG units with soft coat, low E glass which is toughened for safety, while each doorset is fitted with cranked shoot-bolts top and bottom, as well as a mortice lock.
Then to the side of the building, two more sets of full-height W40 framed windows - also supplied and installed by Govette's experienced team - are side hung to open like doors and feature multi-point locking.
Alex Upton supervised the project as well as being responsible for the design work and managing the project. He commented: "AUA has remodelled an end of terrace house to provide free-flowing accommodation for a family. The use of large skylights and the positioning of new windows to the extension filter light where needed, whilst providing glimpses of the outside that serve the new basement. The combination of distinct rooms, natural light and a visual connection between these spaces, both inside and out, makes for a warm and open living space.
"We received design assistance from Govette Windows as well as efficient installation. The W40 system works well with the character of the building while offering a modern edge. The client was looking for something different and these offer a lot more character than other doorsets. You can see a lot of steel windows in use now in this part of town by architects, especially in Victorian properties such as this one."
Darren Lloyd of Govette Windows recounted: "This was an interesting commission from a private client seeking a high-end specification, for which we fabricated the five bay screen and full height windows in the W40 system. Being a member of the Steel Window Association helps to ensure that we are at the forefront of product development. The SWA involvement also helps us to maintain exceptional standards with regards to manufacture and installation; while we are members of FENSA ensuring all our window installations meet the requirements of the relevant Building Regulations.
"Govette Windows has been supplying and installing steel windows and doors since 1996. We have a team of staff with over 40 years' experience in the industry. Our steel window and doors are manufactured in the UK, at South Godstone in Surrey, and meet British Standard requirements."
Govette offers a full service from initial on site consultation, design, survey, manufacture and installation, covering the South East region across London, Sussex, Surrey and Kent. All of its products are purpose made and so can be manufactured to match existing windows and doors or to deliver unique design.
