When architects and contractors need a business they can trust to deliver a value-added service on large or complex building projects, they turn to Laidlaw Ironmongery’s Major Projects Division.

This specialist division has a proven track record of successfully completing work on landmark projects, including those in the residential, commercial, healthcare and education sectors, ensuring specifiers receive the best product for the given application.

Managing Director Peter O'Brien said: “We’ve worked on many highly prestigious schemes across the country and it is clear that our commitment to providing a value-added service, on time and within budget is a crucial factor when it comes to fitting out and completion.

“Because of our experience and attention to detail, we’ve developed strong relationships with architects, main contractors, developers and installers because they know we can be relied upon to achieve the results they are looking for in their projects.”

The expert Laidlaw team played a key role in the £180 million Fitzroy Place development in the City of Westminster, London, providing a range of premium ironmongery for the prestigious scheme, which is built on the site of the former Middlesex Hospital and comprises commercial office space, retail and restaurants, and 235 luxury apartments.

Working for Sir Robert McAlpine, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands Architects and Sheppard Robson, the Major Projects Division delivered more than £400,000 worth of stainless steel and real bronze ironmongery through specialist joinery and fit-out contractor Houston Cox Limited.

Peter said: “As to be expected on a development of this scale and calibre, there is no compromise on quality and we demonstrated yet again that we have the capacity and expertise to deliver premium products that enhance the overall aesthetic quality of the building.”

Other work by Laidlaw’s Major Projects Division includes the supply of performance doors and ironmongery to Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool. A range of products, including door closers, mortice locks, lever handles, digital locks and ancillaries, were included as part of the £237 million scheme, while for x-ray areas of the hospital, Laidlaw supplied nylon ironmongery because it offers exceptional levels of strength and durability.

Laidlaw was also involved in the development of One St Peter’s Square, the prestigious Grade A commercial building in Manchester's central business district. It supplied Glenn Howells Architects with integrated ironmongery, including lever handles made from grade 316 stainless steel. It also worked with the architect to devise a high-security locking system.

Clients working with the Laidlaw Major Projects Division can expect a full range of services, including:

  • Initial project consultation. We listen to the design brief, budgetary requirements, and agree timelines for specification and cost-plan deliverables.
  • Cost-planning options and life-cycle advice.
  • Sample submittals / mock-up installations and technical data submissions.
  • Detailed door-by-door scheduling / site surveys.
  • Programme management, creating a timeline for actions from first meeting through to on-site deliveries, ensuring that complexity is considered and the relevant trades are engaged in good time. For bespoke products, testing is also accounted for.
