Listed hospital receives vital Novus refurbishment

Grade II listed buildings at Central Manchester University Hospital are being restored to their former glory in a £1.5 million refurbishment by Novus Property Solutions.

The buildings, located in the heart of Manchester’s Knowledge Quarter, form part of the largest clinical academic campus in Europe and the NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Novus on a measured term contract to deliver a comprehensive programme of upgrades.

As well as carrying out refurbishment work to the buildings themselves, a team of five Novus operatives are working with a large number of sub-contractors to deliver groundwork and road alterations, as well as general repairs requested by the NHS Foundation Trust.

The works taking place will significantly improve the accessibility of the buildings, with ramps and moulded railings being included in the rebuilding of a Grade II listed wall.

One of the early challenges on site was the relocation of two flammable gas stores, and a 100-tonne crane was used in the early hours of the morning to ensure the job was completed safely, at a time when risk to hospital staff and the public was minimised.

The refurbishment is taking place in a busy environment, and Novus’s reputation for careful planning and clear communication is key to the company’s continued success in the healthcare sector.

Darren Hussey, contracts manager at Novus, said: “Novus has a long experience of delivering refurbishments and repairs, and we are excited to take on the contract at Central Manchester University Hospital.

“Our workforce has a vast amount of experience of working in the hospital environment and we are always ready for testing challenges. We are constantly improving as we strive to deliver the best service and value for money that we possibly can, to enhance our relationship with the Trust.”
