The British Woodworking Federation (BWF) Stair Scheme has teamed up with the new learning platform Building Academy to release a training video that offers top tips to avoid common staircase problems.

Stairs are among the more complex elements in a construction project, and become one of the most hazardous areas in a completed building. The new video launched by the BWF Stair Scheme is a simple guide to avoiding the problems caused by poorly designed, manufactured or installed staircases, including squeaks, visible defects and safety risks.

The video explains what to look out for throughout the entire process from specification to installation. It also emphasises in particular the importance of communication between installers and manufacturers, and ways to ensure safety both on site and during the use of the completed staircase.

The Building Academy is a new online learning platform that delivers high quality CPD and learning material from a range of associations and institutions to those working in the built environment.

The BWF Stair Scheme is the only accreditation and certification scheme of its kind in the UK. It is dedicated to raising standards in the design and production of staircases and recognises the importance of supporting building control professionals. Members of the scheme manufacture and supply high quality, industry approved stairs.
