Time is fast running out for anyone wanting to install a renewable heating system in their home while taking advantage of the government's green payback scheme - the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive.
Michael Wright, of leading regional renewables company Yorkshire Heat Pumps, urged anyone considering switching to an environmentally friendly heating system to act now, before the end of the government's green energy payback scheme.
Said Michael: "The domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is due to close to new applicants in April 2016, with still no word from Westminster on how the government plans to encourage sustainable living long term.
"Those running renewables can currently benefit from quarterly payments from the government based on the amount of energy required to heat their property. This payback means that many householders cover the cost of switching in just a few years. Combine that with lower operating costs for the long term and the argument for switching is a compelling one.
"With the end of RHI and no replacement in sight, a significant incentive to go green will be lost. Many in our industry had hoped for an announcement in the last budget - but we were met with a resounding silence on the subject from the chancellor."
The domestic RHI scheme covers biomass and solar thermal technologies, ground source and air source heat pumps explained Michael. Domestic RHI pays you a set tariff for every kW hour of energy required to heat your home and is paid at this rate over seven years.
There's also a non-domestic scheme which applies to businesses and district heating installations which has lower tariffs, but is paid over 20 years.
Said Michael: "There are still eight months left for homeowners and self-builders to get their renewable heating system in and claim the incentive. But don't leave it until the last minute as there are currently high levels of interest and we predict a busy few months ahead."
Yorkshire Heat Pumps is a leading regional installer of renewable energy heating systems including biomass boilers, ground source and air source heat pumps, based at Blubberhouses, near Harrogate.
