Drainage product and access cover leader, Clark-Drain, has launched CD 1660H KMD, a ductile iron hinged cover capable of exceeding BS EN 124 D400 loading requirements, making it suitable for use in heavy traffic, such as main city streets and roads.
Clark-Drain believes that the introduction of the CD 1660H KMD into UK construction will provide enhanced manual handling and health and safety benefits for operators accessing underground services and utilities.

The CD 1660H KMD hinged design supports manual handling and safety issues by providing quick, easy and safe access to underground services and complies with the design requirements of Highways Agency HA104/09 in low risk areas.
Fash continues: "The hinge mechanism greatly reduces the risk of manual handling injuries compared to lift out castings simply by reducing the effort required to lift the covers. These are useful features particularly in restrictive areas such as motorway communication where there is limited operator access room. They also help with speed of access when operators need to check the condition of the pit and that of its contents such as drains, cables, gauges or pumps."
Standard features comprise a 105° cover opening for maximum access, integral hinge stops when in open position to stop accidental closing and for fuller access each cover can be lifted out when moved to the 90° position. The cover also has a non-rock three point suspension design to provide long-term performance and stability in today’s busy traffic conditions.
The CD 1660H KMD is Kitemark certified to BS EN124:1994 and has a 675mm x 675mm x 100mm clear opening size. A locking version is also available on request.
