New £40m Arden Quarter development given the go-ahead

Planning permission for Arden Quarter, the £40million re-development of the former cattle market site in Stratford-upon-Avon, has been granted.

Developer Orbit Homes has been given the go-ahead by Stratford District Council to build 189 new mixed-tenure homes on the site neighbouring the train station at a planning meeting this week.

Arden Quarter will see the transformation of the former cattle market site, which has stood redundant since 2001, into a brand new residential-led development that is expected to bring long-term financial, environmental and social benefits to the area.

Available through a range of homeownership and rental options, it will offer a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom houses.

Eight of the new homes will be available for shared ownership (part buy, part rent), and 58 will be for sale. There will also be 102 independent living apartments for people aged 55 and over.

Alongside the new homes, due to be completed in phases from 2018 to 2019, will be a range of community features, including retail spaces, a play area, pocket park, and café.

Orbit Homes has appointed award-winning architects PRP to ensure Arden Quarter’s design reflects and complements the local surroundings of the historic town, whilst creating a unique and vibrant identity for the new development.

The design will also include direct pedestrian and cycle links between the train station and the town centre, and the nearby Stratford hospital.
