As more and more pressure is being placed on homebuilders to create affordable, flexible and sustainable housing for an ever increasing population, it would seem that rainscreen cladding is becoming ‘the’ choice for UK developers. Especially with the introduction of innovative new fixing systems that make installation effortless and speedy.
In the CBI’s (Confederation of British Industry) recent manifesto, Katja Hall (Deputy Director General) highlighted the need for more cost effective solutions.
‘Britain needs a sustainable, flexible housing market that delivers quality, affordable homes in the places people want to live. We need to double the number of homes we build and this will require bold solutions.’ Particularly with the population set to reach 70 million by 2027. Katja asserts that the overall goal should be ‘to double the number of new homes we build a year, building 240,000 new homes a year within a decade.’ No easy feat when you consider traditional construction materials and methods.
Rainscreen cladding helps meet the demand
Paul Hughes, Director of Sales UK for FunderMax, has noticed a considerable increase in the demand for rainscreen over the past year. Not only is it perfect for the UK market with its intrinsic durable features and anti-graffiti properties, it is extremely cost efficient. And with the introduction of a new fixing system, he highlights why Scaleo & Modulo are set to change the face of the housebuilding market.
‘Our prefabricated Scaleo lap siding panels are ideal for creating robust and modern facades, as they come ready to go, making life so much easier on site, especially as the weather turns colder. When combined with our simple Modulo fixing system the overall installation is accelerated - with a straightforward mounting process. Modulo is quite unique as it can be used to create impressive interior wall cladding too, and the substructure can be either standard wood or aluminium.
It’s a really exciting time for both FunderMax and the cladding industry as a whole, as there seems to be a concerted effort to innovate whilst keeping that cost effective edge. I certainly think future trends for the housing sector will continue to be led by prefabricated solutions, and I’m sure that FunderMax will continue to pioneer new products such as these.’
