State of the art family home with Black Millwork

A unique self-build property with outstanding energy efficiency credentials has more style than meets the eye with the incorporation of dual-finish Andersen windows from Black Millwork.

Located near Keith in Moray, the three-bed, three-bathroom house sits in one acre of pristine Scottish countryside. With over 3,000 square feet of space, the generously sized family home blends sympathetically with local architecture whilst retaining its own individual character internally, thanks to the dual finish products from Black Millwork.

Donald McInnes, Managing Director of Log & Cedar Construction, the supplier of the custom home package, commented: “The owners of the house project managed the build and were full of ideas, designing the majority of the house themselves. They were keen to get the balance right between building something that felt like theirs and blending in with the local architecture, and to this end, the dual finish windows were perfect.

“It was also important that the house performed well in terms of energy efficiency. Windows and doors have a major impact on the thermal performance of a house, with as much as 20 per cent of heat loss attributed to fenestration. Quality therefore was just as important as aesthetics.”

Installed at the property were 17 Andersen A-Series windows, finished in Dove Grey on the exterior and Pine on the interior. The premium style of the A-Series is matched with impressive energy performance. Achieving U-values of 1.4 W/m2K, the range is the best performing and most energy efficient Andersen has ever produced.

Also installed were Black Millwork’s own aluminium clad French double doors, finished with external colour to match the windows. Benefitting from a comprehensive 10-year warranty, the doors achieve a U-value of 1.79 W/m2K.

After delivery of the home package from Log & Cedar Construction, the house was erected and watertight in under eight weeks. Incorporating super insulated external walls and a state-of-the-art mechanical ventilation heat recovery system (MVHR), the house is extremely energy efficient and uses a biomass boiler to feed the under floor heating.
