Marley’s groundbreaking, pollution absorbing EcoLogic roof tiles have, yet again, provided the City and Council of Swansea with a stunning and sustainable finish to a large residential refurbishment project.
The industry leading EcoLogic tiles, in Nimbus Grey, were used to re-roof a large housing development in Waunarlwydd, Swansea, which comprises a mixture of council properties and leased dwellings.
Having previously been delighted with the tile’s sustainability credentials, after specification on a major refurbishment project in Swansea, the local authority is celebrating the recent completion of another housing project using the same revolutionary product.
EcoLogic has led the market in delivering a new approach to pollution reduction. It has a unique ‘pollution-eating’ coating that absorbs Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) pollutants and converts them into soluble nitrates that are washed away harmlessly with rainwater.
And as Swansea was recently named as one of the 12 cities that need to reduce their levels of toxic pollutants, specifying Marley's groundbreaking pollution-absorbing EcoLogic roof tile provided them with an ideal means to help combat rogue pollution levels. The City and Council of Swansea has adopted a policy to use sustainable and ecological materials on projects where practical so this was a natural choice.
Gavin White, campaign manager at Marley, comments: “We are delighted that the City and Council of Swansea have been so impressed with our unique EcoLogic range. Covering an area of approximately 3500m2, the end result is stunning and the Council can rest assured that we have helped them to deliver on their sustainability commitment.
“With the UK now facing up to £300m in fines if it fails to improve air quality, we are encouraging all local authorities to consider using our EcoLogic roof tiles and are delighted that Swansea is leading the way in recognising the benefits that this can bring.”
Based on Marley’s Ludlow Major concrete tile, EcoLogic contains close to 50% recycled materials, can achieve an A+ rating in the Building Research Establishment’s Green Guide to Specification.
It is also recently achieved independent carbon footprint certification and has also been certified with a ‘good rating’ under the BES 6001, ‘Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products’, thereby making a significant contribution towards a project reaching the maximum number of credits available under the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM.
