The use of low maintenance building products in refurbishment projects is well documented but using PVC-U in heritage or conservation areas is still an issue that holds much debate.
Swish Building Products will be tackling critics and sceptics head on at Ecobuild 2014, proving that modern materials can work hand-in-hand with traditional design; combining the high performance, low maintenance characteristics of PVC-U with lasting good looks.
Stand N1110/11 will feature a heritage display showcasing the company’s PVC-U Tudor Board alongside a ball finial and bracing bar, a concave decorative roofline with trims and a new cast effect Ogee gutter system with unique down pipe castings.
Visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to hear the benefits of specifying and installing PVC-U products while exploring the wider options available to them; from spires and finials to concave and convex roofline components.
Swish Building Products has an array of specialist products ideal for both new build and refurbishment projects; from PVC-U Tudor Board, ideal for replacing mock Tudor timber boards popular on developments in the 1980s; to low maintenance, PVC-U roofline products designed to recreate and replace the intricate detailing of original timber rooflines, often associated with Victorian buildings.
The company’s SuperDeep 170 guttering system will also feature on the stand (N1110/11). Already proving successful in the commercial arena the high strength, high volume guttering system is designed to handle a much higher flow rate than standard guttering systems. With a market leading flow rate of around 10 litres per second, the SuperDeep 170 has the capacity to carry over 10 times more water than a standard half round gutter and at least five times more water than a standard deep system.
Swish Building Products will form part of the Epwin Group stand (N1110/11) along with a number of group businesses including Permadoor, Profile 22 and Safedoors.
As one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of PVC-U products, and as part of the Epwin Group, Swish Building Products is at the forefront of post-industrial and post-consumer recycling in its sector. It’s guttering and pipe products, for example, are manufactured from 84% recycled material, saving 70% in CO2 generation when compared to virgin material.
The company was among a pioneering group of building product suppliers to secure the environmental management standard ISO14001 in 2007 to add to its quality management standard ISO9001. The occupational health and safety OHSAS18001 followed in 2009.
Swish Building Products is the first and only roofline and cladding manufacturer to have gained BES6001 Responsible Sourcing Certification ‘Very Good’ for fascia and cladding systems. Consequently, it is also the only manufacturer to offer Maximum points for Mat2 and Mat3 for roofline and cladding under the Code for Sustainable Homes.
As part of its continuous commitment to improving environmental performance, 2012 saw Swish Building Products cut its carbon footprint for the fourth consecutive year, a decrease of 26% since 2008. The company achieved the equivalent of Carbon Trust Level One carbon reduction of 8.82% across electricity, gas and heater fuel uses (Fixed Utilities) from 2011.
The low maintenance building products specialist cut 29% from its water usage and 10% from its electricity consumption in 2012. The company generated 255 tonnes of general waste over the year; including pallets, shrink-wrap, and paper; all of which was sorted and recycled, with only 2% going to landfill.
