The Greenworks Training Academy in Birmingham is now home to a live working demonstration of the innovative SCFB system, part of the self-closing flood barrier range from UK Flood Barriers.
Visitors to Greenworks can witness the passive flood defence system in action; activated by the power of oncoming floodwater, it requires no human intervention to provide protection.
Summer 2012 was officially the wettest in 100 years, with over 5,000 properties across the UK damaged by the sheer volume of rainfall. A large proportion of the properties affected were not near river or coastal regions but were victims of surface water run-off, a result of flash flooding, proving that no home is without risk.
Featuring on BBC’s The One Show recently, the SCFB is extremely versatile with the ability to span any width; the barrier is suitable for use along waterways, in coastal defences, to surround low lying buildings and protect flood vulnerable or flood critical infrastructure. Moreover, the 100% effective SCFB is permanently and invisibly installed in the ground, requiring no power supply.
Marcus Jefford, Greenworks Academy Manager commented: “We are delighted to be showcasing the SCFB at the Greenworks Training Academy, this pioneering system has recently been specified by the Environment Agency for the flood stricken town of Cockermouth.
The Committee on Climate Change has advised that the number of properties at risk of flooding is expected to quadruple over the next 20 years; therefore it’s vital that we educate the industry on the latest innovations that are emerging to help safeguard both lives and property in the UK.”
The Greenworks Training Academy is supported by its sister brands Jewson, Graham, Gibbs & Dandy and Minster.
