METSÄ WOOD RECYCLES ECOBUILD STAND

After successfully showcasing a number of new product developments at EcoBuild, Metsä Wood, formerly Finnforest, the leading provider of sustainable timber systems, has donated materials from the stand to a local London technical college. The College of North West London received the timber to use on its carpentry course, which helps to develop the skills of over 180 students.

Metsä Wood, which sources the timber from sustainably managed forests, recognises its environmental responsibilities and aims to minimise the negative impact made on the environment and local communities in which it operates. Committed to encouraging and promoting sustainable forestry practises, Metsä Wood understands the importance of reusing materials. Metsä Wood, which decided to recycle its engineered wood products, consisting of a staircase and mezzanine floor made entirely from Kerto and spruce plywood, put it to a good use by helping to train new people entering the industry.

The College of North West London, which offers a Diploma in carpentry, hopes to use the timber to develop the skills and knowledge of students through practical demonstrations.

Patrick J. Leavey, Head of Technology at The College of North West London said, “We are delighted to have been chosen for the donation of Metsä Wood’s materials, it is positive to see the timber being reused and put back into the industry to train the younger generation. We recognise the significance of developing practical skills by applying a hands on approach to training, and with the new Metsä Wood materials the students can build a new mezzanine floor in the workshop. Additionally, we hope to increase the number of practical demonstrations on the course.”

Marcus Sanders, Head of Marketing for Metsä Wood commented, “Metsä Wood is firmly committed to providing the construction industry with high quality, sustainable building solutions and materials. Generating the two-tier display on the Ecobuild stand used a variety of Metsä Wood’s premium timber, and it was important to see the goods fully recycled at the end of the show. It seemed appropriate to donate the materials to the College where they could be put to good use and be used to train students starting out in the trade.”
