Innovative door solutions developed by Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies are helping to keep the terminals secure at the UK’s first and only cable car network which sits 90 metres above London’s river Thames.
The Emirates Air Line which opened for the Olympics is operated by Transport for London and can carry up to an estimated 2,500 people per hour from Emirates Greenwich Peninsula for the O2 arena to the Emirates Royal Docks and the Excel arena.
The network contains 34 gondolas, each with a maximum capacity of 10 passengers. The terminal buildings are an important element of the day to day operations of the network.
The door and shutter technology installed in the cable car terminals by Ingersoll Rand is specifically designed to ensure the highest levels of safety and flexibility in a wide range of environments. It includes four Dor-O-Matic manual, stainless steel doors, five roller shutters and 17 Martin Roberts stainless steel doors.
The contract was awarded to the Ingersoll team based on their project management background, competitive pricing and track record of developing products with high standards of reliability, comfort and safety. The team also had a proven history of partnership working with Principal Contractor, Mace, and was able to supply the complete door and ironmongery package using its own Briton ironmongery range.
David Hindle Key Accounts and Major Projects Manager at Ingersoll Rand, said: “For us it’s about providing a whole service, from advising on the best technology for the environment and specific requirements to safe and secure installation, and the ongoing provision of excellent service and support. This project involved working to extremely strict deadlines and managing the logistical challenge of working across both sides of the Thames and I’m really proud of what the team achieved. The Emirates Air Line is a fantastic scheme and we’re delighted to have been part of such an iconic development, serving Londoners and visitors alike by helping to ensure their continued safety and security.”
Matt Randall, Project Director for Mace, said: “The Emirates Air Line project required incredibly accurate planning and project execution as well as high-spec finishes. It was great to work on it with such a dedicated and specialist teams including Ingersoll Rand. The end result is superb and more importantly, one which we hope the people of London will be able to enjoy safely for a very long time.”
All Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies’ doors are manufactured in the UK and the company offers a complete chain of custody throughout the specification process.
This includes everything from national sales support, design, manufacture and supply through to installation and on-going service backed by a national network of installation and service engineers, all trained to BS7036 standards.
