How low can clay go?

Marley, the UK’s leading manufacturer of clay plain tiles and fittings, gives specifiers maximum flexibility when selecting clay plain tiles. Significant investment in manufacturing processes means that some of its most popular clay plain tiles can be used at pitches as low as 30°, an advantage over the market standard of 35°.

Made from the highest quality Etruria Marl, Marley's Acme Single Camber and Hawkins clay plain tiles have been subjected to rigorous wind-driven rain testing to meet European standard prEN 15601. The results of the test program showed that these tiles performed extremely well at a 30° pitch, 5° lower than many clay tiles from competitors.

Richard Bishop, campaign manager at Marley, said: “The Acme Single Camber and Hawkins ranges are available in a selection of colours and textures that allow for a far-reaching design scope. The technical benefits provide a real advantage for the customer, all of which is underpinned by the quality heritage look that a natural clay tile roof provides.

“Our investment has supported our lean manufacturing methods that streamline production and reduce costs, enabling Marley to offer the most affordable range of clay plain tiles in the UK. This, coupled with the fact that our clay plain tiles have excellent environmental credentials and can achieve an A+ rating in the BRE Green Guide to Specification, makes them a real option for any roofing project.”

Acme Single Camber and Hawkins clay plain tiles are both 265mm x 165mm in size and have a roof covering capacity of 60 tiles/m2. Acme Single Camber tiles are available in a range of eight colours, while Hawkins clay plain tiles are available in four different colours.
