Leading fabricator Fabweld Steel Products has launched a new recessed manhole cover and frame, with a unique feature eliminating health and safety lifting concerns.
The SOLO SLIDE™ is a recessed cover and frame fabricated from mild steel which can blend in with the surrounding area. A unique feature of the SOLO SLIDE™, part of FSP's FAB Pave range, is an ergonomically designed key which allows for single person operation.
The drainage access specialist is manufacturing the product in high grade 6mm mild steel to ensure stability under load and longevity, with tapered covers and a flush soffit to ensure the cover can be removed easily from the frame.
Managing director Richard Hilton said: “SOLO SLIDE™ is part of our comprehensive FAB Pave range and has been designed to be filled with a solid material, such as brick paviours, flagstones or asphalt, etc., which means the cover blends in with the area in which it's fitted.
“Matching the cover to its surroundings has a clear aesthetic benefit for our customers, but a vital feature which eliminates potential health and safety issues over handling is that one person can lift the cover with a unique key.
“The functional design of the key ensures an upright posture for the operator and makes it extremely user friendly. All covers in the SOLO SLIDE™ range can safely be removed by a single operator when using the unique SOLO SLIDE™ lifting key.
“The SOLO SLIDE™ comes in a range of standard sizes and depths. However, because of our in-house design capability, we can manufacture non-standard sizes and depths rapidly at little extra cost.”
Mr Hilton said customers from architects and consultant engineers to local authorities and utility companies were impressed by the SOLO SLIDE's designed capability to last.
“Traditional designs are thinner grades of steel, some even have plastic frames. When both the public and private sector want to reduce costs, customers want a cover which has a longer life because of the material thickness and, because the covers are interchangeable, there's no need to replace the whole unit if an area is being re-surfaced.”
The SOLO SLIDE™ is already in cities across the UK, including key locations in London such as Tower Bridge and in Trafalgar Square.
