The UK’s leading manufacturer of flooring adhesives and subfloor preparation products, F. Ball and Co. Ltd., has launched Stopgap 1100 Gypsum, a self-levelling smoothing underlayment designed specifically for application over calcium sulphate based screeds, such as anhydrite.
The formulation of this new underlayment is calcium sulphate based to ensure compatibility with this type of subfloor screeds, and provides a smooth and level surface prior to the installation of new floorcoverings.
As well as providing a specialist solution for the levelling of suitable prepared calcium sulphate screeds, Stopgap 1100 can also be used over a wide range of other surfaces, including Stopgap waterproof surface membranes, concrete and sand/cement screeds.
Stopgap 1100 is the latest addition to F. Ball’s high performance range of Stopgap floor smoothing underlayments and is a water-mix smoothing underlayment, with excellent self-levelling properties to help contractors achieve an optimum finish. It also has a low odour and protein-free formula that allows it to be used in clinical and biologically sensitive areas such as hospitals.
Richard Harris, Marketing Manager at F. Ball and Co. Ltd, says of the launch: “We’re constantly investing in research to develop products that deliver real benefits for our customers, and Stopgap 1100 was created in direct response to a market requirement. In addition to its suitability for calcium sulphate based screeds, Stopgap 1100 comes with the excellent self-levelling properties that F. Ball products are renowned for.”
Stopgap 1100 Gypsum is supplied in 22kg bags that will cover of 5.0m2 at a thickness of 2-3mm. At this thickness Stopgap 1100 will be ready to receive textile floorcoverings after 24 hours and resilient floorcoverings after 48 hours. The application thickness ranges from 2 to 10mm, but where greater depths are required, the product can be filled with Stopgap Graded Aggregate and applied at a thickness of up to 50mm.
Prior to the application of Stopgap 1100 over dry calcium sulphate screeds, it is very important that the surface is properly prepared. Any laitance must be removed by grinding and the dust fully vacuumed off to achieve a sound, smooth and dry surface. Calcium sulphate substrates must be primed with two coats of Stopgap P121 acrylic primer before the application of Stopgap 1100, and all other surfaces must be primed with Stopgap P131 general purpose primer.
