Best in class BRE Green Guide rating for Polyfoam ECO

After extensive testing by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) Knauf Insulation’s Polyfoam ECO range of extruded polystyrene products has achieved a certified BRE Green Guide Rating of “A”.

The Polyfoam ECO range are the only extruded polystyrene products to be independently assessed by the BRE allowing specifiers to have the utmost confidence that the products provide a proven sustainable solution.

Polyfoam ECO is in an unrivalled position, as all other extruded polystyrene products currently available in the market have a BRE Generic Green Guide rating of “E”. This is in addition to the many other benefits offered by the Polyfoam ECO range such as zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and a global warming potential (GWP) of less than five.

Polyfoam ECO is free from CFCs, HFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content, as well as being 100 per cent recyclable.

What’s more, in response to the ever-increasing thermal performance requirements demanded by the Building Regulations, Knauf Insulation has enhanced its product offering by introducing single board thicknesses of up to 240mm for the Polyfoam ECO Roofboard range. U-values as low as 0.13W/m2K can now be achieved on an inverted roof with the installation of a single layer of Polyfoam ECO Roofboard Extra – providing significant labour and cost savings for contractors.

Maria Morgan, Product Manager, Foam Products at Knauf Insulation, commented: “Sustainability is a key market driver for construction projects and as such we are constantly looking to enhance the environmental performance of our products.  What’s more, we are committed to providing specifiers with proven third party verification of our products’ performance.

"BRE testing is a robust procedure in which the product, as well as the manufacturing process and materials, are closely scrutinized, resulting in a trusted and independently verified rating – which we feel is an extremely positive endorsement of our product.”

The Green Guide is part of BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) – the widely respected environmental rating scheme for buildings.  With a growing number of clients now asking for BREEAM accreditation, specifiers are increasingly seeking products that have undergone independent testing.

Furthermore, Knauf Insulation has a dedicated technical support department; TASC (Technical Advice and Support Centre) on hand to offer advice for every aspect of the design, specification and installation process.
