Sika has provided a robust, low maintenance flooring solution for a local authority vehicle maintenance depot in Lancashire.
Blackburn with Darwen Council’s new facility required a hard wearing floor able to withstand the wear and tear of vehicles driving on its surface, plus anti-slip properties to ensure the safety of staff.
A wide range of colour options was also essential to allow line markings for the safety of workers at the site.
Specialist applicator Rabbit Flooring turned to Sika to provide the ideal solution, which began with Sikafloor 161 - an economic, two-part low viscosity epoxy resin primer for the concrete substrate offering easy application and short wait times.
The solvent free Sikafloor-263 SL was then specified as a base coat. This system boasts self smoothing and broadcasting benefits, and is ideal for areas likely to face medium to heavy traffic. It is also recommended for wet process areas - which is important in a project where oils and other fluids are likely to be present.
The system was completed with a slip and chemical resistance finish, Sikafloor-264 Thixo, which was applied as a textured rolled coat.
Adrian Breeds, Managing Director at Rabbit Flooring, said: “There were a number of practical considerations that needed to be taken into account on this project, not least the heavy wear that the floor surface was likely to face and the safety of workers at the depot. Working with Sika products, we were able to provide a solution that met all of our requirements and provided a high quality, attractive finish.”
Richard Kay Key Account Manager for Sika Industrial Flooring, said: “We were delighted to work with the Rabbit Flooring team on this project and the finished floor looks superb.”
Sika boasts an extensive flooring range with products to suit a wide range of applications within commercial, decorative and industrial sectors.
