Aico has donated Heat and Multi-Sensor Fire Alarms to the Scottish Veterans' Garden City Association (SVGCA), a charity that has been housing disabled veterans in Scotland for over a century.
Operating as a private not for profit Scottish charitable landlord, SVGCA houses the greatest number of disabled veterans in the UK. It works closely with Scottish Local Authorities, Legion Scotland and the Army Personnel Recovery Centre to help those transitioning from the Armed Forces due to injury. It currently owns 642 houses in 76 locations across Scotland.
In Dunfermline SVGCA owns eleven properties in a single street that had been fitted with Smoke Alarms to category LD3 Grade D protection (mains powered alarms with a battery back up, installed to cover escape routes). Because of the nature of the tenants, many of whom are elderly and have reduced mobility, a higher level of protection is desirable. However, as a charity the SVGCA has to carefully manage and direct its resources.
Moffat Electrical Projects, employed by the SVGCA, identified the need for increased fire protection and approached Aico to see if the company would consider donating alarms to bring the fire system up to category LD2 Grade D, which means more alarms per property to cover escape routes and high risk areas. Aico was more than happy to help and donated its latest Ei2110e Multi-Sensors and Heat Alarms, which were installed free of charge by Moffat in the living area and kitchen of each property.
Aico’s mains powered Multi-Sensor Fire Alarm, Ei2110e, contains two sensor types, optical and heat, using intelligent software to provide the best response to all fire types and reduces potential false alarms which can be distressing for occupants.
All alarms in the property were interconnected by Moffat using Aico’s award winning RadioLINK wireless alarm interconnection technology, ensuring the alarms are heard throughout the property. RadioLINK allows alarms in the property to communicate with each other using Radio Frequency (RF) signals rather than hard wiring. As Steven Simpson, Electrical Supervisor at Moffat Electrical Products explains: “this reduces the mess and disruption that can be caused when the alarms are being fitted”.
Moffat Electrical Projects in Dunfermline has a well established relationship with Aico, having used Aico alarms for many years and being Expert Installer trained. Aico’s industry recognised Expert Installer scheme provides the information and training necessary to achieve a successful and effective Smoke Alarm installation and has trained over 12,000 contractors to date.
