Liverpool City Council has redeveloped a late Victorian, early Edwardian former school building and turned it into a conference centre in the heart of Toxteth, Liverpool.

Toxteth Annexe is positioned on the corner of Aigburth Road and is an easily accessible building with strong community links. As a former school, it is a large building which offers excellent facilities and a total of ten conference rooms which are used regularly for professionally managed events.

As the building is old and the rooms are large, one problem they faced was that the original heating system was slow and unsuccessful in bringing the building up to the desired temperature, which meant that the rooms were not warm enough. This was very impractical as the building was being used every day.

The building required heating that is effective during opening hours while not incurring additional costs when the premises are closed for business.

Liverpool City Council decided that Smith’s Caspian Universal fan convectors would be the best product for the job. They selected Smith’s Caspians because they are hydronic and compatible with the selected commercial boilers and because fan convectors have the ability to bring a room up to temperature quickly which was something that the Annexe was in desperate need of. This provided long-term budgeting advantages for the heating bills of the Annexe because they can be programmed to come on closer to the time required.

A total of 23 Caspians were installed throughout the building and the council was able to site the fan convectors in positions that worked best for each location. This made the installation of the products quick and easy and ensured that they looked good in the locations that were chosen.

Smith’s Caspians have a lower surface temperature than other types of heat emitters which lends itself to public-facing venues where a wide range of ages regularly come through the doors. They are compatible with all types of wet central heating systems. As such they are regularly employed in a wide range of light commercial premises and come with a free five-year warranty for parts and labour.
