Orbit Homes has secured £2.2million funding to help support the delivery of over 100 new affordable homes in the East and South East.

The developer, part of the 39,000-home Orbit Group, accessed the funding through the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as part of the 2015-2018 Affordable Housing Programme.

Orbit Homes was awarded £209,000 to redevelop Quex Court, a sheltered accommodation scheme in Birchington, Kent. This site will be used to create 11 new homes for affordable rent. The remaining fund will be used to build a further 95 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership in Hastings, Great Blakenham, Dartford and Beck Row.

Work on all five sites is due to commence in the next six months, with completion expected by March 2018.

These new developments will take Orbit one step closer to achieving its ambitious target of building 12,000 new homes by 2020; having already built over 3,600 homes in the last two years.

Maggie McCann, development director for East and South, said: “Orbit Homes is delighted to have secured this funding, which will enable us to invest in our assets and continue to build much needed homes for our customers now and in the future.

“Working in partnership with the HCA, we have formed a strong relationship that supports a shared vision of building successful communities. By providing this funding the HCA demonstrate confidence in our ability, as a financially strong organisation, to deliver quality housing solutions across the country.”

In December 2015 Orbit was granted £13.5million funding from the HCA to develop 600 new homes in the Midlands as part of the 2015-18 Affordable Housing Programme, and is hoping to secure a further £1.16million to support the delivery of another development in the South East.
