Vale of Aylesbury Housing has marked the start of its new Gatehouse Way scheme.

The development will see 48 new affordable homes built in the area: 36 affordable rented homes and 12 shared ownership properties.

The site is situated between Gatehouse Way and Griffin Lane, near Aylesbury Vale District Council’s (AVDC) Gateway offices. The project is the largest development if it’s kind for the Trust to date. Phase one begins on the Gatehouse Way end of the plot, which will see the affordable rented homes built first.

Matthew Applegate, Chief Executive of the Trust, said: “We're delighted to have begun work on the Gatehouse Way project, as there is a significant demand for affordable housing in central areas. This development will see quality affordable homes being offered for rent and shared ownership, which will benefit the area by bringing a brownfield site back into usage, supporting people to continue to live locally within their community.

"We're proud to be working alongside Aylesbury Vale District Council, Aylesbury Vale Estates, and the Homes and Communities Agency, who have helped fund this fantastic project.”

Dan Myers, Senior Area Manager at the Homes and Communities Agency, said: “Gatehouse Way will provide a choice of good quality homes that will help address a real need for affordable housing in the area and will no doubt be warmly welcomed by local people.”

Work is expected to be completed by March 2015, although it is likely that many properties will be complete and occupied earlier.
