Derby’s £100 million Castleward development is celebrating its latest success after being awarded a prestigious industry accolade.

The Castleward team, Compendium Living, Derby City Council and HCA, pick up their award

Castleward scooped the Refurbishment and Regeneration accolade at the East Midlands Forum for the Built Environment Awards for its new community of homes and commercial space between Derby railway station and the Intu shopping centre.

Winners of the region’s best construction projects were announced at an awards ceremony held at The City Rooms in Leicester.

The Forum for the Built Environment is the leading independent built environment networking organisation, celebrating the benefits of developments as a whole.

Ian Woodland, Project Manager at Compendium Living, the developer behind Castleward, comments: “We are proud to receive this recognition so early on in the life of the project, with work on phase one of Castleward currently underway, and to know that we are making such a positive impact on the city of Derby.

“While the new homes and commercial space will create a new community in which to live and work, everyone will feel the benefits of this project due to the tree-lined boulevard we are creating, which will provide a new gateway to the city centre and an attractive link between the railway station and the heart of Derby.

“This award celebrates the excellent design of Castleward, its transformation of what was previously underused, brownfield land and all of the benefits it will bring to Derby in the future.”

Compendium Living was selected as the preferred developer by Derby City Council and the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which own the land at Castleward.

Kate Davies, Senior Area Manager for the Homes and Communities Agency in the North Midlands said:  “It’s great to celebrate this win with the rest of the Castleward team. We have put a lot of work into making this scheme a success and it’s great when that recognition comes. Compendium’s construction at Castleward is now both award-winning and proving popular in the market, which is fantastic for growth of the city.”

Castleward is the redevelopment of 30 acres of brownfield land, which will become a brand new community of sustainable homes and businesses.

Phase one of Castleward will feature 164 new homes, 16,500 sq ft of commercial space, a boulevard and new open public space.

In total, Castleward will feature 800 new homes and 35,000 sq ft of commercial space, as well as a public open space and a new boulevard linking the railway station to the city centre.
