Specflue launches next generation of heating interface units

Manufactured by Thermal Integration and distributed by Specflue, the next generation of Heat Interface Units (HIU) have been launched to the UK market.

Branded as DATA, the units provide domestic hot water and central heating in properties connected to a district heating system using a central boiler.  The DATA has been designed for better performance and ease of use, whilst delivering all the same benefits of the traditional HIU.

Uniquely, the DATAs are also capable of communicating digitally with each other, with the occupant and with the buildings computerised management systems; enabling greater efficiency throughout the entire system and greater control over the function of the unit.

For many years, there has been an increasing use of centralised boiler plants in property developments in both the public and private sectors.

However, importantly, for local authorities or landlords requiring pre-pay functionality, the DATA can isolate the unit from the district heating circuit in the event of lack of credit, overcoming the need for a separate shut-off valve and the associated cost and pressure drop.

The advantages of removing gas boilers from properties and making use of high efficiency centralised boiler plants are numerous. Advancing technologies such as combined heat and power (CHP), biomass, extract air heat pumps, waste incineration, and solar, which are mostly uneconomical to employ in individual properties, can be utilised and combined to generate heat to numerous properties. An HIU is fitted into each property and takes the heat from the central plant, using it to provide central heating and hot water.

The designers at Thermal Integration have been at the forefront of HIU technology for over twenty years, and the DATA is built on this experience. It is one of the smallest, but most advanced heat interface units on the market and can be installed within a standard kitchen cupboard. Each unit is capable of producing up to 75kW domestic hot water and 20kW indirect central heating.

The unit also has Networked Hot Water Priority (patent pending), and has standing losses of less than 50 watts.
