The contractor for the restoration of a historic church in Devon has opted to install the Classical Plus rainwater and guttering system from Saint-Gobain PAM UK, part of international materials company Saint-Gobain.
Mike Hawham, a local specialist church restorer, chose the cast iron guttering system for its strong aesthetic qualities which complement the building’s traditional exterior.
Classical Plus is coated in a high-performing polymer powder alloy (PPA571), tested to 1500 hours salt spray and ultra-violet resistance, guaranteeing optimum protection and long product life.
St Petrock’s Church in Parracombe was built in 1879, replacing an original 11th Century church. It is considered one of the ‘must-see’ churches in Devon thanks to its original Georgian architectural feature. Due to its stature and history, it was granted Grade I listed status in 1965.
Nigel Keegan, Technical Sales Manager for South West England & South Wales at Saint-Gobain PAM UK, commented: “It’s appropriate that the Classical Plus range is being installed on this historic church. It is one of many heritage projects whereby cast iron drainage systems are chosen as the only products able to maintain the appearance of the building.”
The Classical Plus rainwater and gutter system was supplied by local merchants Jewson’s, in Ilfracombe.
